Malachi Sgan-Cohen (b.1990, Jerusalem, IL) Graduated with honours from the Department of Fine Arts, Bezalel Academy of Art & Design (2014). He is the Recipient of the 2018 Young Artist Award, from the Israeli Ministry of Culture & Sport and the America-Israel Cultural Foundation Scholarship for Visual Art Studies (2014/15). His work is characterised by an ongoing personal and conceptual discourse with the tropes and "ghosts" of historical Modernism from an image saturated and mediated contemporary standpoint. Through the use of photography, relief, collage and digital drawings his work explores the relationships between objects and their representation, figuration and abstraction, art history and the present. Sgan-Cohen had a solo exhibition at Rosie Projects Room, Rosenfeld gallery, Tel Aviv (2019) and participated in group exhibitions in galleries and museums including the Tel Aviv Museum of Art (2021/2022), Ashdod Art Museum (2019/20), The New Gallery, Musrara, Jerusalem (2019/20), The 7th Biennale for Drawing in Israel, at the Jerusalem Print Workshop (2019/20), Givon Gallery, Tel-Aviv (2019), Atelier Shemi, Cabri (2019), Museum of Bat-Yam (MoBY) (2018), The New Gallery Artist’s studios Teddy, Jerusalem (2017/18). His works are in the collection of The Israel Museum, Jerusalem and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.
